PAA 2012 Day 1 Kickoff

We left Cambridge, MA (home to MIT and Harvard) and pedaled about 75 miles down the road today to Providence, RI. Along the way I saw 1001 beautiful things.

SRAM’s Neutral Race Support Team is once again on the road with us!

It’s the goal of pretty much every single ride to make it through without injury or incident, and we were very fortunate today to make our entire journey safely. There was quite a bit of wetness and moisture on the road and the bikes were certainly dirty when we arrived in Providence but all the riders stayed up.

We had a few special guests joining us out of Boston including Jeff DeRosa from the Dropkick Murphys and Alan Sartirana, who is a Pablove board member and the co-founder of Filter Magazine.

The countryside out here is gorgeous this time of year, and we rolled through some pretty pastoral scenes of farmland, livestock, tree leaves taking on fall colors, amazing waterfalls and some old and abandoned mills.

Want to follow along as we make our journey from Boston, MA to Raleigh, NC? Thanks to MapMyRide, you can do so! Just click this link to go to the live map! I’ll be broadcasting for as long as my battery will hold out, so I hope you enjoy the experience!

I’ll also be posting daily updates here and on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/westonmcwhorter) and Twitter (http://twitter.com/westonmcwhorter).

As you’re no doubt aware, I’m aiming to raise $15,000 before we arrive in Raleigh on the 13th of October, and could use your help! You can contribute by clicking on the “Donate Now” button in the widget on the homepage, or by visiting my fundraising page.

Ride on!
